About Me — From Code to Career

Mihajlo Petrović3 min read

A personal introduction to who I am, how I got into software engineering, and what drives me every day as a developer.

Hello, World!

My name is Mihajlo Petrovic, and I'm a Software Engineer based in Belgrade, Serbia. I've spent the last 5+ years building digital products that people actually use — from banking platforms to e-commerce systems, from mobile apps to internal tooling.

But before we get into the technical stuff, let me tell you how I got here.

The Beginning

I grew up fascinated by how things worked. As a teenager, I spent hours tinkering with computers, breaking things, and — more importantly — figuring out how to fix them. That curiosity eventually led me to the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering of Applied Studies in Belgrade, where I earned both my Bachelor's and started my Master's in Computer Engineering.

My first real line of production code was written sometime around 2019, during an internship that quickly turned into a full-time role. I was hooked.

Where I Work Today

Today, I'm a Software Engineer at Raiffeisen Bank, where I work in international teams building digital onboarding and deposit solutions used by approximately 2,000–3,000 users per month.

My stack at work is primarily:

  • Frontend: Angular, Knockout.js, TypeScript
  • Backend: C#, Java, Node.js
  • Process automation: Camunda 7, FormsEngine
  • Databases: SQL Server, MySQL

Working in FinTech has taught me a lot about building software that must be reliable, secure, and user-friendly — all at the same time. There's no room for shortcuts when someone is trusting you with their financial data.

What I Love Building

Outside of my day job, I'm constantly learning and building. Right now I'm exploring:

🤖 AI-Powered Products

Large language models have completely changed how we think about building software. I'm experimenting with integrating AI into everyday web apps — not just chatbots, but tools that genuinely save people time.

📱 iOS Development

I recently picked up Swift and SwiftUI, and I'm loving it. Mobile development scratches a different itch than web — the constraints force you to be intentional about every design decision.

🌐 Modern Web Architecture

Angular is my comfort zone, but I keep my skills sharp across the stack. I've built projects with React, Node.js, Python/Django, and PHP/Laravel.

Beyond the Code

I believe great software is built by well-rounded humans, not just good programmers. When I'm not coding, you'll find me:

  • Reading about product design and user psychology
  • Following the startup ecosystem (especially in Eastern Europe)
  • Working on side projects that scratch my own itches

Let's Connect

Whether you're a fellow developer, a potential collaborator, or someone who just wants to talk tech — I'm always happy to connect.

Thanks for reading, and welcome to my corner of the internet. 🚀

Tell me about it. If it can be automated well, I will show you how. If it cannot, I will say that too.
